In your "spare time" focus on growing your practice ASAP through networking and becoming visible in your area!

* Tap into the community networks.
I'm not familiar with how Canadian communites operate, but if they are even a little like towns in the U.S, many local business, professional, social, etc. groups exist. If so, go to as many meetings as you can. Introduce yourself and tell them what you do. Bring business cards and hand them out.

** Look for a related, non-competing business to exchange leads with. I know a chiropractor who does a brisk business exchanging leads with a local yoga school and a massage therapist. All of their businesses, and their clients/patients, benefit!

** Put stacks of your business cards in public places where they are obviously welcome (e.g., grocery stores, health clubs, restaurants, etc.).

** Look for opportunities to give talks and/or classes.
Maybe at the BC Chamber of Commerce (or Canadian equivalent) or your local adult education venue on topics like "How to Avoid Back Pain" or "What is a Chiropractor" or "Managing [fill in the blank] Pain Without Drugs" or ???

* Register a domain name and have a Website professionally created for your practice.

** Be sure it has your contact information on it - your address and phone number.

** Regularly add "evergreen" articles on topics of interest to your potential patients - "How to Shovel Snow without Ruining Your Back" in the Winter, "How to Garden without Ruining Your Back" in the Spring, "How to Mow Your Lawn ..." in the Summer, "Raking Leaves ..." in the Autumn, "Good Posture for Computer Users," "Teaching Your Kids to Protect Their Backs," etc., etc. Syndicate versions of those articles on the net for others to use, linking to you as the resource (in-bound links will build your Website's relevance and increase the traffic).

** If you have enough traffic to your Website, you can run Google AdSense and Yahoo Advertising Network ads which will generate some income for you (not a lot, at least initially) while you do other things.

Don't sit in your office and wait for the business to find you. Go out there and get known!

Good luck!

First of all, let me say that I am jealous of your location....lol....beautiful place to be.

My Chiropractor advertises in the local community magazine as well as in health and wellness magazines. He has connections with Dentists and other professionals in the area and they work back and forth. When I got my bridges put in, it was extremely painful so my Dentist gave me a free session with the Chiropractor who I have been seeing ever since. I have been recommending my Chiropractor to people in my business as well. It is in the health and wellness industry so they go hand in hand. As a result, my Chiropractor is going to start marketing my product right in his practice because it is conducive to the health of his patients and it's another stream of income for him.
It's all about relationships and everyone seems to be helping everyone else to keep the ball rolling.
I would be happy to show you how it works.

My chiropractor is also a Mary Kay consultant and then cross-promotes each business and seems to be doing very well with that.
