Continue to use the brush, but remember to first thoroughly lube your backside with an effective cleaner (eg: Toilet Duck). This works well to soften the brush bristles and not leave that ugly conspicuous rash.

You could try soft grain sandpaper to get rid of those troublesome clinkers after an excretion...
Don't get rid of the toilet brush... It'll come in handy when you need to clean your teeth :)

Its going to feel like that for awhile naturally, but you'll get use to it. Don't go back to tissues, sometimes they just don't get the job done well enough.
