hi, i am looking for a cute/witty story about materialism to use in a speech of mine. I will opening with it so i want an 'attention getter'. I would say something like, "often what illustrates the stupidity of a materialist lifestyle is people who choose to live the complete opposite and yet are much happier because of it..."
A fairly extreme example would be some monks who have no possessions but the bare minimum. Failing that, you've got people in your own life who have given up material riches to contribute something else - think of teachers for example. For people who contribute to society and get knighthoods, Nobel prizes etc...
