Of course continue to work with your doctor. Because the laxitive didn't work, may mean a blockage. (SERIOUS!)
I have lived with this problem all my life and still have to follow certain diet rules. PLENTY of fiber, like whole grain cereals. Prune juice (YUK, but a small glass in the morning works)
And drink more water than you think is possible! Leave off cheeses, for instance.....and anything else you suspect might cause your constipation. Plenty of water is primary. This is SO common an ailment and acts different in different people. Read all you can about it
for other suggestions.
Other than getting back with your doctor, you might try a glycerine suppository. Insert it with a soft rubber glove on your hand that is greased up with vasoline. Then lie on your side
for 15 minutes while it begins melting in your rectum or until you feel an urge to go. The first one may not give results. Use care in inserting the suppository, so you don't injure the rectum.
Sorry to be so specific, but constipation is a miserable condition and needs to be dealt with after three days! Even to the emergency room, if the above doesn't work! Fleet enemas might work, but they are a little harder to use.

They're not much fun but there are lotsa things you can take to get rid of constipation. Suppositories or enemas are usually sure fired methods. However, if your stomach is really hurting, and laxatives aren't working, I would try a suppository first. If THAT doesn't work, I wouldn';t do anything else at home. You could have an obstruction in your bowel or something.

I suffer from IBS and have learned that constipation is from a magnesium deficiency. Magnesium is an important mineral that is lacking in most of the foods we eat in today's society. Magnesium will help with a lot of ailments such as stress, calcium intake, insomnia, and CONSTIPATION. Go to your local health food/nutrition store and gets some magniusium. The one I really like is called PETER GILLHAM'S NATURAL CALM. Also get some probiotics, B6, and B12. You will be amazed at the results. Take care.

Drink lots of apple juice. 32 ounces of apple juice per day (or more) should do it until you have a movement. Try heating it up a bit first; it will taste like warm apple cider and it will work better. And drink lots of water also so that you don't get overwhelmed by all the sugar from the juice. Laxitives are too harsh on your system and they don't always work. Trust me. I have a minor intestinal blockage as the result of several surgeries, so I tend to get bound up every so often. I discovered the apple juice cure one time when I was drinking lots of it because I had a bad cold. I couldn't stop pooping. Apple juice works.
