I used to have the worst time on stage. Before I went on, I was a mess. I had the dying urge to pee. I felt like I was going to throw up. I would sweat, shake, and get really thirsty.

When I got on stage, the lights were so bright that most of the times, I couldn't even SEE the audience. (which, you're not really ever supposed to look at the audience anyway.) That helped. Pretending they weren't there. Just pretending you're in dress rehearsal.

You'll be fine. It's something you'll have to adapt to--in your own time.

Ashley.

Stage fright is a natural feeling that most people feel when we have to stand up in front of an audience and perform or give a speech. But , you can overcome this feeling by giving yourself confidence. I use to a very shy person but these words made me realize that hey all of us are only humans no one is made different. " Everybody has the potential to be somebody but, you can be yourself." Look at it this way ,just by being an actress and given a part to act and portray an individual makes you somebody that the director feel is confident to do the part right. Think about it, cheers....break a leg...

Hey,
Stage fright is not fun. I have never acted, but I am a figure skater and I have had my share of nerves when having to perform in front of people and judges. Make sure you are well prepared for the performance. That way when nerves come, muscle memory will take over. Also try performing in front of some of your friends to get used to people watching you. When I compete or do a show I pretend I am just at another practice. Try not to over think it and just have fun with it. Good luck getting over your stage fright. I know you can do it.

i have the same problem as you! even though when i perform i know i have done it before and get even more confused as to why i am still shakikng from stage fright? well what i do is i keep getting bigger and bigger parts, taking risks [[ like i just sang a solo part in front of my whole class yesterday!]]. just keep doing what you are comfortable with until you know that you are over what millions of people have. I don't act but I do give long presentations to some very educated crowds.

Take the psychological approach. Learn your lines well, which is obvious. But remember, you KNOW what you're going to say next and the audience doesn't, so that gives you the knowledge advantage. Pretend like you're the expert, and the audience is just learning, and your mind will eventually realize THEY are the ones who should be nervous.

The weakness to this is if you have any doubt about your lines, you WILL get nervous, so make sure you're prepared.

Just pretend that you and your friends are the only ones there, and if you do mess up one of your lines smile and make like it didn't happen.
