Why do some grounds name their stands 'The KOP'
Not only is there one at Anfield, but also Sheffield United, and I think theres one at Birmingham City?

Good question. It's made me do a little bit of digging and your man is right about it being named after a hill (The Spion Kop) in South africa where a lot of soldiers from a Liverpool regiment died. Below is a link to the ever useful wikipedia website with some further info.
