For wireless, it doesn't matter which provider you use. If you have an NTL line, you're stuck with NTL's own broadband service. But you can always buy a wireless router which plugs into the cable modem that NTL supply - see http://www.broadbandstuff.co.uk for some examples. You'll need a simple wireless router, not a modem/router.

Just get the NTL package, the internet, phone and tv for like £30 a month, just add a wireless router to your modem (available from amazon, dabs comet etc) make sure its a cable router though and dont tell NTL its wireless. Thats what most people do, dont forget to add a password to your connection so your neightbours cant steal your bandwith.

You just need a wireless router to connect to your modem that you already have then once it is set up, off you go, a LINKSYS router is very easy to set up.
