My daughter just turned 6 months old and I still have all of the weight from pregnancy plus some, I am breast feeding and I have heard mixed views of losing weight while doing so. Some say that breast feeding helps you lose the weight, and now more people are saying that it makes you keep it on. Am I just out of luck untill I am done breast feeding or is there something I can do? Please only seriouse answers! And please keep in mind that I dont have much time to go and "exercise". Please help!

I think that it depends on the individual. Every body has a different body make up and metabolic rate. I have a 10 week old. I breast fead and I lost all of my baby weight and then some within 10 days of delivery. I dont think that there is an "across the board" duration that can be expected. Dont worry yourself about it. Enjoy your baby and just be sure that you stay active.

I have heard that breast feeding helps you LOSE the weight because it helps your stomach muscles work. After I had my son, I immediately lost 40 lbs (I gained 76 lbs...which I know is way above the recommended amount) and kept on the remaining 36..which I blame on all the late night fast food from my pregnancy...so now I'm having to change my eating habits and incorporate exercise into my already busy schedule...if possible, eat more veggies and fruits (which you should already be doing since you're breast feeding), cut back on sugar and fatty foods, and make sure to eat many small meals throughout the day to get your metabolism up...for exercises, I know that it's colder out not (I'm not sure what part of the nation you live in) but if possible, why not put your child in a stroller and walk around the neighborhood? If it's too cold, then see if you can get your spouse, family, or even a friend to watch your child while YOU go for a walk...it'll be great exercise and allow you to clear your mind...good luck!

Let me just tell you regardless of if you breastfeed or don't it is hard to lose the baby weight. I now have 3 children and with the first two had very little problem losing the weight. Now after my third I just can't seem to lose it. I am more active now than ever before so that definately isn't the case. I guess basically I wouldn't worry too much about it at the time. Think about your baby and worry about her. If you want to, ask your daughter's pedicatrician if he/she knows any secrets because a lot of times they do.

I have done weight watchers and they do have a special program for moms who are pregnant or breast feeding. Find your local weight watchers group or look it up on the internet and check it out and see if it will work for you. It is mostly just keeping track of what you eat. You get on a points system and you get so many point per day depending on your weight.(more when breastfeeding) and you are encouraged to excersise because by doing so you get more points and you can eat more. Maybe that piece of chocolate you are craving...it motivates you to excerise but you don't have to. I didn't and I still lost a lot of weight on this diet. Good luck.

My OB/GYN prescribed me a prescription called Phentermine that suppresses the appetite neurotransmitters that go from your stomach to your brain. I don't know if you can use it while breast-feeding as my baby needed supplement and found the bottle easier and refused to nurse after. It is not a forever prescription but it helps give a jump start to weight loss.

There is no reason you cant lose weight while breastfeeding. Go on a reasonable diet and drink plenty of fluids. Use baby to exercise while playing with her.

Don't worry. When your baby is running around, you will get all the exercise you need!
You can walk everywhere though- that is easliy incorporated into your day.
