Soak it in some coke. The real stuff now and it will be very shiny. My uncle worked for 20 years at a factory that made coke and he was quality control and this always worked for him...he tested the pop. Have fun!!
Hope you don't like coke it kinda makes you wonder what you are drinking.

probably hydrogen peroxide is the best of the above
But whenever i've got a grubby penny, rubbing it in some sand always makes it come out all shiny again

put your penny in a glass of Coke. The acid in the soda cleans it right up. For your science experiment find out what the acid is and what chemical reaction removes the tarnish. Good luck.

i did that once...but i used vinegar.
try lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide and compare the two.
hot sauce will just make it tasty

if those are your choices probably lemon juice, but coke is the best. I think the citrus acid in the lemon juice will clean better than the your other choices though.

if you mix soil and small quantity of water it will give you mud. take the penny and rub it with the mixture, & the results are good.
