It depends on your budget -- if you are a young person, working your way through college -- then ANY Video Game System is expensive.
But let's look at prices -- the Nintendo DS (at all the stores I have been to since Christmas Shopping -- and there have been quite a few) -- the Nintendo DS system is around $130 for purchase price -- and the games for the system also are cheaper when they first come out than any other video gaming system.

When talking about portable systems, the Nintendo ds is in the middle of the road pricewise. The GameBoy Advance and GameBoy Micro are both cheaper, though personally, I don't think they'r as fun. GameBoys range around 60-80$ and Micro's are 100$. The ds is between 125-130$. The psp from Sony is 199-200(though some places are reducing the price for the holliday season).
Some folks might think it's a bit on the pricey side while others might not. It all depends on how much you want to spend. . I think you'll be happy with the ds if you get one though.

If you don't really have a lot of money to get one it'll seem expensive but it's really not. Even the DS lite launched cheaper than when the orignal DS came out. It's really not expensive at all tho.

It's actually not very expensive compared to psp. Besides, it's worth your money.
