The back passenger door now has a ding in it. The person sitting next to me is perfect proximity for causing it. And, the door that caused it has multiple chips and scuffs on the edge, as if they hit a lot of things. Also, there are kids stuff lying in the seat of the door that dinged me. I took pictures, have the license plate, and took measurements of the distance between the cars and the position of the cars wheel well in relation to mine. What should I do!? Police?

Most likely the police if they come will just write a report and you'll never hear anything again from them. Next unless you have wittness or wittnesses probably can't do much. Then there is the Deductible on your insurance unless you have a $ 100 dollar or so you'll probably have to pay out of your pocket to have repaired... Mark it up as a lesson learned.

If you are 1 of those that Cruise the lot for the closest parking to the door you get what you wanted close to the door along with all the other goofiness...

I have found that if you can walk "I need to walk alot" maybe you don't to park far out into the lots in fact sometimes away from all the other cars and walk to the stores. You will be less likely to get dinged and it will be heart healthy...

Walter, read the question before you answer. What part of "IN A MALL" did you miss?

To the rest of you yelling "Call the police for a report" -- unless they happen to be feeling bored and want something to do when you call they will tell you they don't investigate minor accidents that happen on private property, and tell you it's a civil matter between you and the other person.

Take your pictures and measurements and all to your insurance agent, and see if you are by chance covered. I would think even with full coverage that the damage would be less than your deductible and you will have to pay out of pocket, but perhaps not, and perhaps your insurance will go after the person who might have hit you.

But frankly, unless they are contacted and admit hitting you, you don't stand much chance of collecting. How can you prove it was their car and their door? Perhaps someone else did it and left, and they just happened to get the same spot.

I would see if the police will let you file a police report. Hard one to prove though, even with the circumstantial evidence you have. Try parking further out to avoid this type of problem in the future. I just had all a couple of dings fixed, and hate having to spend the money. So I make it a point to park far, far away now. I understand it's hard to do sometimes.

Does the other cars' door have any of your paint on it? Unless it has, you could have difficulty proving that the other vehicles owner is to blame.

Just because it has multiple scuffs and chips, does not mean it hit your car. Unless the other party admits it, I don't think you'll get very far with this one.

Call the police and make a report. Then check with your insurance agent if you plan to place a claim. You will be responsible for a deductible under your comprehensive coverage but its recoupable if you can identify the other cars owner

depends if and if you want to make your neighbor mad go ahead and call the police and get a report for your insurance company------ and then the next step would be to try a new parking place....if the paint off your car is on his car you might have a case..... cars are going to get dinged it is a fact of the road-----
