You get totall access to all the travel you want to do at tax payers expense, you get a good retirement pay for the rest of your life, you get all your bills taken care of and i fyou want to go on a trip around the world ten times a year, you can do it all without any cost to you. And you get round the clock security from the day you get the job till the day you die as well as your family members. With all the perks, why not go for it? I would do it in a heartbeat. If you are not a multi millionaire, you don't have a chance at getting the job in the first place so to say you are in huge debt and you get nothing is a flat out lie. They owe nothing when they get the job and they have more millions when they get out and free ride from there on.

There is no monetary gain! In fact, they usually lose money. Kerry wasn't totally unqualified. You'd think because of his Senate experience he would have been better. Now, Carter, on the other hand....Well, he was governor, but I guess being President is a lot harder than running Georgia. But then again, the voters thought he was doing a good enough job that they re-elected him.

The money doesn't come from the job, but the book deals and speaking engagements after the fact. Clinton can get $100,000 for ONE public speaking engagement!

Clinton actually raised the salary for President, though he never received the increase: the new rate started with Bush. The president now receives $400,000 a year.
