sophist, i ask myself that same question alot too...how much liberal bias can the news have when they are all owned by large corporations with vested interests in oil and national defense? look no further than nbc news--they are owned by general electric, one of our country's biggest defense/weapons producers...so, how liberal can they really be, and what kind of really probing questions can they really ask, when their owners have such a huge interest in maintaining the status quo---after all, the status quo means more money to them...for non-corporate news, try www.democracynow.org, i watch it everday---you'd be amazed at what is really going on out there...good luck!

It's obvious everywhere on the mainstream media. The American broadcast networks, major papers. Their "objective" new reports do not hesitate to label, say, Orrin Hatch as the "conservative" Utah Senator. You never hear "liberal Senator Ted Kennedy". Or left wing Congressman Barney Frank. Christian voters are examined as a political force in America to be covered extensively, but secular humanists never are.
Their bias shows in the way they define the "center" in terms of the issues they choose to cover -- clearly to the left of where most Americans are as reflected in elections. We're, basically, a 50/50 nation but that isn't reflected in the way the old media covers the news. That's why Fox has been so successful. They stay center/right and have it all to themselves, while all the others split the center/left market among themselves.

Liberal bias has been in the media for a very long time. Fox News was the first agency to deliberately counter it. But it's REALLY started showing itself after 9/11. It basically means most media leans their support towards the Democratic party. Most outlets den y it exists, but then they'll go and prove it DOES exist when each organization starts doling out their endorsements for coming elections...usually pro-Democrat.
But you'll notice it MOSTLY from those who deny it and defend it (who are all vocally LIBERAL), while those who attack the practice are conservatives...all the time!
Try attacking "the media" without using the term "liberal"---you'll find that those who attack you back are ALL LIBERALS!! I've tried...it happens all the time.

Mass media, everything you watch on TV, listen to on the radio, and read in newspapers, books, etc., is owned by 6, soon to be 5, major corporations. These corporations own and control it all. Their job is to keep us destracted from the REAL issues we should all be concerned about. As long as the Dems & Rep keep providing them with this "Entertainment", they make money, and lots of it. They don't care. You have to understand that the media is only concerned with the bottom line. The corporate news media will not concern itself much with the fact that there is rampant poverty and staving children right here in the US, but rather we be concerned about movie stars, and other stories of no real importance. This is especially true of the conservatives who are more concerned about cells in a petry dish than they are about real children dying in their own country from lack of nutrition and health care. They would rather destroy stem cells than ease human suffering.
