I don't...When I do I always feel guilty or feel like I've done or said something stupid..when in reality I probably haven't. I drink on occasion..why I don't know..to escape reality and to help be someone I"m really not. (which is dumb)

Oh yes. I quit drinking about a year ago because I kept blacking out. I was also running from the cops but I don't know if the statute of limitations is up on that so forget I said it. I could not agree more. Alcohol has taken my father, grandfather, and to a certain extent my peace of mind. I have done some heinous stuff while boozing. Not necessarily violent although I do not know because some of these episodes I have no recollection of. I was invited to a party on a yacht but I was too hungover to attend. I woke up vomiting. I got it all over the walls. I still got dressed and drove to the boat but I threw up in the parking lot so I had to turn around and go home. I really love the open water and I missed it because I was too drunk. It is the association with alcohol and being a proper man that really makes it hard for me to stay away from booze. I romanticize it. There is nothing I would love more than to get drunk in Munich. Why? I feel macho with a pint in my hand, plus I love the way it tastes. But during this year of sobriety I have been doing a lot of reflecting and I cannot come up with one redeeming quality for the stuff. I will not try to tell others what they should do but for me it has been more pain than pleasure.
But keep in mind this is coming from a guy who cannot do anything he likes just a little bit. I was up to 3 packs a day when I was 17. And then I dicovered women and was nicknamed the bunny becasue I would go 5 times a day everyday. As a matter of fact that is why I quit smoking because it was slowing me down in the bedroom. Oh, and I eat like an Ethiopian at a buffet. I am addcited to everything.

I drink because when i do i always have fun. i dont think there has been a single time when I drank that i had a bad time. Plus, there is nothing better on a hot summer day than a cold beer. It may be bad for my health but so are many other things. I'd rather have a fun and exciting shorter life than a long boring life. It hasent been bad for my relationships. Its actually brought me closer to others.

I am a binge drinker. It started when my fiance' committed suicide in our bedroom almost five years ago. I woke up drinking and went to bed drinking. Then I met my husband who saved me aqnd when we had our daughter I stopped of course. (as soon as I found out I was pregnant) but I do still drink now on the weekends. I try to justify it by highlighting the good parts of my life ,like I go to school through the week and I am a good mother. But just recently I realized I only want to drink on Saturdays because I am bored. I feel I need something to fill that time with. The truth about someone like me is that I'll always be an alcholic because of my past habits even if I only drink one day out of the week because I depend on it to get me through that one day.

I beg to differ. A moderate amount of alcohol really is good for health. And relationships. The problem is many people do not know how to drink moderately. I can, but I seldom bother. I mean, if there's a dinner party and everyone else is drinking, I will have one glass of red wine and sip it very slowly. By the time it is empty, the dinner is usually over and then I sip one gin and tonic for the rest of the evening.
Remember that in addition to whatever else alcoholic beverages have, they have calories. A calorie is a unit of energy, and alcohol burns and turns to energy very efficiently; calories.

Not everyone drinks...and of those that do, not all drink to excess. It is acceptable to have what is known as a "social drink" on occasion, but the people who drink "day in and day out" have an addiction. My mom was an alcoholic, and she drank because her body craved the alcohol. In the end, she didn't drink because she wanted to....she drank because she had to.

A glass of wine with dinner is actually good for your heart, and hot buttered rum is just darned good.
It's the binge drinking that causes problems. It is an excuse for whatever stupid things they do that evening. "I didn't mean to sleep with your fiance, I was drunk." for example, is not an acceptable excuse to ruin relationships and act like a hussy. If you know that you get like that when you're drunk, and you do it anyway, you are still responsible for your actions. Yet people feel that getting rid of any inhibitions by drinking will help them have more fun, without having a pesky conscience or sense of morality getting in the way. Not the brightest blades in the drawer...

I generally dont drink. Maybe every 3 months i have 2 drinks. Over excessive drinkers i feel deep down are mostly distraught and unhappy with themselves. Its sad but at least those people who do that know that i will drive their asses safely around.

People who drink think that they have so many problems, but the truth is, they want attention, its running away from reality.
Example: Muslims have problems too, but they don't drink.
Its all about principle: if they think that drinking will solve their problems, then let's all drink!!(not really)
DRINKING DOES NO GOOD!!
But is the solution, the stupid goverment should prohibit it!!
