People are touchy. They often expect others to tip toe around them, especially while they are in mourning. It's difficult to understand that, if you're not touchy youself. I guess the art is to try to figure out the kinds of things that people feel touchy about -- or to shrug it off when they overreact. I remember someone telling me at my father's funeral he'd be alive today if he had eaten the right kind of food. I thought it was amusing.

Men are naturally protective of their women. It's a fact. It could of been something that he was thing as well, and it could be annoying to hear it repeated out loud by other people. It's also possible that you have been rubbing him the wrong way that night, being annoying w/out realizing it. Why not ask him?

He just misunderstood. or most likely he actually upset about something else maybe something you did. But that something you did is not something that allows him to be angry upfront so he chooses something else. that according to society gives him more reason to be angry. maybe not something you did , maybe he is just frustrated with some life situations especially now during the festive season this is a very common occurrence

He did not get your sense of humor...reminds me of the old footage of Marilyn Monroe who was late for the presidential birthday bash (Kennedy) and was introduced as "the late Marilyn Monroe"...
