i'd say its whole life...trees continue to grow until they die

Depends on what type of tree you plant. Some trees grow faster than others. Also depends on soil conditions.
My wife and I planted a willow and it died back each year during the hot and dry part of the summer. It took about five years before it was able to grow. If this same tree was planted where conditions were more favorable it would have gotten established and started growing the 1st year.

The average tree takes seven years from the time it goes in the ground until it is harvested.
The average dominant tree takes about 150 years to reach a stump height diameter of 30 cm (12 in).
The average tree will bear fruit in three years, with full production coming in 8 - 10 years .

There are fast-growing trees like Mulberry and there are slow-growing trees like Oak, and there is inbetween rate of growth. You'd probably have to give the average ornamental tree about 5 to 10 years to see it as a tree.

It all depends on the tree and the growing conditions and the climate that you live in.
You will have to add to our question. But before it is a beautiful big tree 5 - 10 years. Just make sure that you have planted it far enough away from everything, and far enough apart from other trees.

Depends on the tree. When you buy them, they have a growth chart attached to them which is supposed to tell you how fast it grows and where and when to plant it. I got a miniature something-or-other and it assured me that it would grow only 2 centimetres each year. Ten years later, it's a monster. A beautiful monster, but a monster none the less!

About 1 second, as soon as you plant it.
If you mean how long does it take to reach a decent size, then anything from 7 to 100 years.
We have trees here that were planted before 1066!
