It is a gaseous planet that almost became a star. So at the moment there is no way to find out about the thing. Remember what happened in Arthur C. Clarkes story and how Jupiter turned into another Sun.

Jupiter is mostly made of gas, some of it highly compressed. The outer atmosphere has some of this gas, but it is not the sort that can be breathed. A visitor to Jupiter's "surface" would see a spectacular view, perhaps like http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap000429.html but the view in that is exaggerated. Gravity would pull you into the lower cloud layers, where you would be crushed. As the quoted webpage says, "Every day is a cloudy day on Jupiter."

Really unpleasant. The weather is extremely cold. There is so much atmosphere that is pushes down on you and crushes you, not to mension the extreme gravity. The average wind speed is faster than most hurricanes on earth, and the entire planet is dotted by enormous planetary storms, the larges one being the Great Red Spot.
Since Jupiter is a gas planet, it has a rocky core, surrounder by a sea of liguid nitrogen, followed by, of course, the atmosphere which by the way is many times thicker than that of the earth.

Ask someone who has been to Jupiter. The big red "eye" is a hurricane of sorts three times the size of the earth.

It is VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY COOOOOOOLD! And windy. You can't survive its atmosphere regardless of what you're wearing.
