Sure. there are already people who have 'raised flags' because his last name sounds like Osama.
In politics you are playing to the lowest common denominator and 'good' campaign advisers will use everything they have at their disposal.

It didn't seem to cost him votes in Illinois when he ran for the Senate, so probably not. And since he shouldn't get the presidential nomination in 2008 - not enough experience - his next Senate race in Illinois is all he needs to worry about in the '08 election unless he gets the vice presidential nod.
