its a combination type padlock i bought and ive messed it up,no im not breaking into a house or a breifcase before you ask

You will have to cut if off with a tool.

You could try bolt cutters, but that would mean buying another padlock. If you've got time & patience, go through all 1000 combinations til you get the right one.

If I understand you correctly, the combination can only lie between 001 and 999. If that's the case then it isn't really much of a lock and you should find the number easily by trial and error.

Yes - there is a trick to it, but it needs practice and I can't tell you it without demonstrating. Take it to a key-cutters or a lock smith and they will get it open no problem and will also reset the combination for you, they usually don't charge for this service.

as u try each number on each of the dials the correct number usually makes a faint clicking sound different 2 the others, so rather than trying every combination u just try each number on each dial which doesnt take very long.

easy just play with it for an hour go through the combinations one by one and you will get it. sometimes when the numbers are correct there can be a bit of play in the lock itself, then you just turn the others till it goes.

I think if you can't jog your memory, your only option is to try all 1000 possible combinations starting with 000 and hope its a low number.

best to hacksaw it off and get a new one rather than mess about
