In our culture it's a compliment. I don't know about America where it seems normal for everyone to be rude to each other.

If it was a loud person they may have meant it as an insult, but I think you should take it as a compliment no matter how they meant it. A soft voice is much more pleasant to listen to and easier on the ears than a louder harsher voice. I have one of those loud harsh voices and a lot of times people mistake me for being mad when I'm really not. I have a friend who is soft spoken and even when she is mad she still sounds so sweet. Definitely a good thing.

I think that being soft spoken is a great quality for someone to have. The only problem that comes with being soft spoken is that people may try to walk all over you because they think you can't stand up or defend yourself.

Definitely take it as a compliment. In this world, where there are so many loud, obnoxious people, to find a kind and soft-spoken person is a treasure.

Complimenting you. They may be asking you to speak up, is another thought that occurred to me. If they are having a hard time hearing you, volume wise, you would need to speak up to not have conversations be frustrating. But, I believe this is not the case in your question, and therefore a compliment.

I'm with Sam on this one just talk however comes naturally to you some will like it some won't.
Guess what if you change it some will like that and some won't.
Personally I think softly spoken is very appealing it's usually indicative of someone who is calm and collected and uses their brain before they talk.

It means that you're probably gentle and that people trust you. The only thing about being soft-spoken is making sure you can be assertive if the need arisees.
