Yahoo is not making your computer slow. It is junk inside your computer that is slowing you down.
First make sure you have a virus free machine. Update and run your anti-virus program. Don't have one? You can do a online scan at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Download spybot---http://www.safer-networking.org/ Don't forget to use the Immunize feature.
Download adaware---http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/products/select_your_product.php
Do a disk cleanup---Start>all programs>accessories>system tools>Disk Cleanup
Defrag your hard drive. Follow the above steps and instead of clicking disk cleanup, click on Disk Defrag.
Download CleanUp---http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/
Reboot. You will not see a faster machine. Happy Surfing

if you are using the yahoo mail beta version of yahoo then it is sure that your sysstem will go slow if you have no good configuration computer (a minimum of 1028*1028 screen resolution and a 256 RAM is needed to run the yahoo mail beta without any problem on your computer)
