I've wanted a horse for 7 years. But it seems like it'll never happen. I'm trying content with my dogs, and my cat but it's so hard to settle with less then what you've wanted all your life. No, I'm not a spoiled little rich girl but i can't help it. All I want to do is get my own horse.
I'm 12 years old, how can I save up money, and how can I keep it, meaning convince myself when I want to buy something to save that money for the horse?
Thanks
And please don't say, Talk to your parents. It's no use.

Hi Jessica. You will get your horse one day if you want it that badly. But you need to be strong willed to save up that much money. As others have suggested, do a regular little job for a friend, relative or neighbour such as walking the dog, ironing, shopping etc. Then when you are old enough, get a part time job in a shop (store). Open a savings account to keep you money in so its harder to just spend it all. But do keep a little back to spend as you go along as you also need to go and buy all those things that 12 year old girls should spend their money on. Talk to your parents seriously about this and ask them to help you work out how much the horse will cost, especially how much it will cost to look after it once you have it and they will realise how much you want this and that you are being sensible and grown up about it. Ask around and plan where you might keep it once you have it. Most of all, if you want this enough, you will manage to save up that money even if it takes a long time. And just think how proud you will be of yourself when that pony is all yours! Good luck Jessica.

If you truly want this horse, then you WILL be able to save up your money. See if there's a way you can earn money regularly - for instance, you might do dog-walking for a neighbour, or something like that. And if you get allowance, don't spend it on this or that object you would like to have; you can buy it any time, because after you have gotten your horse you'll still have those five bucks.
And SAVE your money! If you get five dollars allowance a week, then keep only two for spending; with that you can still get some stuff without wasting much. A horse costs a good deal of money, so you'll have to wait a long time before you can get it.
Keep your savings in a box where you won't look; and most of all, on Christmas, ask your relatives for money, and only that; in just one day you might get about a hundred dollars - and that's quite a bit, since you can get a foal for six hundred as far as I know.
Good luck in saving your money! It worked for me, though I never got those kittens I wanted because somebody else adopted them first. *sigh*

ok I was in your position once too and wanted a horse really bad - begged my parents for one but never did get one...and really its not something you can afford on your own without a job.. and even still there would be a responsiblity by your folks..
I assume you live in the city and not on an acreage where you can keep your own horse... same with me..
what you need to focus on is RIDING LESSONS....there is no point to getting a horse until you can ride well and understand more about them.. the lessons should include grooming and catching etc...
THEN get a piggy bank or bank account
SAVE FOR YOUR FUTURE.. not for the horse itself... the BEST thing you can save for is education... so that you can make enough money to buy an acreage and have as many horses as you want...
I now own 10 acres...

Get a job as a babysitter or dog walker or something of the sort. Once you start getting money, buy or make a cheap, but durable piggy bank and put all your money in there and do NOT get in there to take money out. You might want to keep a paper that tells how much you have in there and just try and learn self control with spending money. If you get a piggy bank, get one that you can't take money out of unless you break it....it might work. This may or may not help. If you were older i would tell you to get a bank account and keep all your money in there and not use it at all until you get enough money to spend on the horse. Also remember that not only do you have to pay for the horse, you have to pay for his/her food and supplies to take care of him/her. Good luck!

I have a friend who loves horses too- she really wants one, but her parents won't buy it. She has been saving half of her allowance and doing odd jobs for two years now, and it's really adding up. She rides horses weekly at a farm open to anyone for lessons. She and her friend might buy a horse together and split the cost of boarding it at that farm. You could start saving money yourself- it will show your parents how dedicated you are once you reach a high number. Just keep dreaming about it and working towards it- it will happen for you.

I had to wait until I got a job before I could buy a horse of my own. I saved up my paychecks and bought a Mustang and boarded him nearby. I was 17 years old.

horses are far more expense than any 12 yr old can afford without mommy and daddy's money. you'll need stable , hay , oats , veggies , saddle , grooming equipment. if it's no use to talk to your parents like you said, then maybe they are aware of the expense and are making the choice that is best for them.
