I am writing a novel and I dont want to send off for a cd that tells me about all the free grants out. I already know I want a grant for writing a book. I just need to know what govt office I need to call or who to write to an request the application to be mailed to me. I just need the application itself not all that other stuff the internet offers. I just want the application for the grant itself. with application in my hands, I can handle the rest.

You can try to apply for grants at the National Endowment for the Arts, National Foundation on the Arts and Humanities -- if your novel has anything to do with humanities. Grants are not easily given to just about anyone who wants to write a novel. That novel must have some impact on humanity studies, not simply a romance or relationship novel.

You can apply to Grant 45.024 Promotion of the Arts_Grants to Organizations and Individuals - read about qualifications and objectives of this grant at the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance website
http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.SEARCH_PGM_TXT_DYN.SHOW?p_arg_names=prog_nbr_in&p_arg_values=45.024&p_arg_names=keyword_in&p_arg_values=writer&p_arg_names=_title&p_arg_values=

To apply for grants, go to Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov . They have everything you need to apply for grants.

The first step is to register with Grants.gov and their registration process can be accessed from http://www.grants.gov/

1. Get a Data Universal Number System (DUNS) Number
2. Register with Central Contractor Registry (CCR)
3. Authorize your Organization's Representatives
4. Login as an E-Business Point of Contact (POC)

To register as an individual applicant for grants, go to this page http://www.grants.gov/applicants/individual_registration.jsp

This page contains what you need to know to apply for grants http://www.grants.gov/applicants/apply_for_grants.jsp

You will first be asked to find the grant number of the grant that you wish to apply for. You can get this from the Catalog of Domestic Assistant http://www.cfda.gov which is the federal database of all grants. Browse through other grants that you may be able to get.

It won't be easy though.

I have serious doubts that the US government (you don't say where you live) will pay you for a novel. There might be some programs somewhere for a special kind of novel (ethnicity, etc) but I can't believe that there is a standing program like that.

Then again, I never thought that a Lawrence Welk museum would be funded either -- go figure.

There are 3000 new books published each DAY. Good luck even if you get published.
