Hey,
I read this book for school too! I can't really remember what is in which chapters, but here is my interpretation of the questions.

1. The conch shell is the symbol of authority. This is aparent when the boys elect their leader. Although Jack seems to be the more obvious leader of the group, they are naturally drawn to Ralph for their leader. Why? because he has the conch. This shows the authoritive affect it has on the boys.
2. This shows Jacks destructive and violent nature. There isn't much more I can say to answer this question, I don't remember that part very well, sorry.

I hope I have been a little help! Good luck on your test tomorrow!!

Oh my gosh, I loved this book.

I will help you out, but you should pay attention and find the answers yourself next time:

1. The conch shell is the symbol of authority. It gives whoever is in possession of it the power to talk.
2. Jack slashing the green candle buds shows how destructive he is. I don't remember this part, I read it last year in English 10.

I don't remember who Maurice is. Sorry.

Good luck.

You really shouldn't have other people answer your questions for you. You should read the book and find the answers yourself.
