You can buy Bitter Apple spray at a pet shop -- it's harmless but kitties hate the smell and taste.

a spray bottle or water gun will work and are great ideas. if you're not crazy about the idea of spraying water all over your house, you can go to your local pet supply and find an "Ultrasonic pet trainer" (anywhere that sells training collars should have these). It's a small device that looks like a tv remote that has a button that when pressed, will produce a pitch that your cats (or dogs even) do not like and it will destract them from whatever negative activity they are engaging in. my cats still like to hide from each other underneath the tree, but they have learned not to knock the ornaments off any longer :)

You don't need to buy any chemical sprays... Just a spray bottle and put water in it. Spray them when they get near the tree. The pine scent has a silimar affect to catnip which is a cat stimulant, so they are just trying to have fun :) j/p you should squirt them each time they come near the tree to prevent future destruction

You can't. THEY'RE CATS. Just keep the tree near a wall, and use fishing line to secure the tree to the ceiling or to a hook on the wall. Put away really expensive breakable ornaments. You can have cats or you can have breakables, that's the choice. Don't put presents under the tree. Have lots of cat toys and places for them to climb in other parts of the house, all times of the year.

any pet store will have a spray that will work. This is the first year I haven't had to use it and my cats are 6 years old. It is kind of expensive but lasts a long time and it worth it!

You can go to most pet stores and find a Doberman. Put the Doberman near your Christmas tree. Your cat will lose interest.
If they don't have a Doberman, you can substitute a Pit Bull or Large German Shepard.
