Well yea of course if the USA devoted more interests in soccer, I think the team could be great. But I don't know if I agree with you about other pro athletes switching over. I don't think, especially if those players were not brought up playing, that they would be that great. They might be good, but I think pro soccer is a sport where you really would need to start off at a younger age to be really, really good, especially if you want to win the WC.

If you were to take the average American sportsman and taught them a crash course in technique only, it wouldn't happen.
American Football players concentrate on very small plays, so their overall endurance would never compare to a seasoned "soccer" player. Not to mention as one other person said, they're just too bulky for the most part to play effectively.. although your beloved country's Ronaldo is kinda a fatty nowadays.
Basketball players may do ok depending on their size. Some of the better goalies are rather tall men with good hand/eye coordination. They may be good wingers also, but they'd have to retrain themselves from hand/eye to foot/eye.
Baseball players just couldn't do anything i don't think beyond a good goalie with their current skillsets.
This is not factoring in Hockey, for the sake of conversation right now, we'll let the Canadians have that sport :P

The quick answer is NO! Most basketball and US Football players are the wrong shape for a start. The hoops players might be OK as wingers but generally tall palyers aren't great with their feet. Can you see a LB as a soccer player.Great athletes maybe but soccer players no way

yes, good point. if our best atheletes played soccer, we would compete for and probably win world cups. but it will never happen, football is so ingrained in the culture here, it will always be our favorite sport, so our best atheletes will always migrate there by high school age. and the ones that don't will play baseball or basketball.
note to MAJ: NFL players are every bit as passionate about what they're doing as any soccer player around the world, so your arguement is flawed
miguel B missed the point entirely. other countries already have their best atheletes playing soccer. soccer is the most popular sport in most countries, so that's what the best atheletes want to play. here in america, no one cares about soccer, so none of our best atheletes want to play it. soccer teams in the US consist of foriegners and american atheletes who are not goot enough to play football, baseball, or basketball

Not all at, what are you saying, the physique of basketball players and American football is totally wrong for Football.
The hoops players would tire out too fast and the Amer. footy players are way too big.
While you're at it, why don't you make them jockeys...

no i dont think so... even if they have the physique they don't have the passion like the european, south american and african players have. its what sets them apart from the other countries. they won't have a TOTTI or a SHEARER ( but i hope they will do) instead they have mike tysons and tim duncans
by the way im asian...i wish we have more football here
