my five year old GE refrigerator freezes vegetables in the lower compartments..even though the setting is set at the warmest level ...what is the solution and what is the problem?

Set the main thermostat control back to the normal(half way) setting as well as the freezer temp. control and check to make sure that the drawers and the shelves associated with the drawers are in their proper place.

I guess you mean in the crisper section. See if there is another door to the back of the drawer. Maybe the drawer has slide out of the track too, or there is too much space between the drawer and the lowest shelf. How are things like milk doing on the upper shelves. You said it is set at the warmest setting. Things in the vegetable drawer are sort of sealed off from the rest of the refrigerator so that things like lettuce don't freeze. So like I mentioned earlier too much cold air is getting into it.

Old refer---those drawers were designed to keep meat cold and will often freeze veggies---newer refer's have a seperate control for the lower drawers on the left side. If yours is newer look for the control and set it to veggies in lieu of meats.
