The manual states that I need to change this every six months. My question - is this true? Can I just wash it under some water?

Also, if I have to buy the hepa filter (called Hepa filter cartridge style hf2, part no. 61111) do you know of any cheap places to get it (I can order it from Eureka for 20 bucks. Also, have you found any other replacements (not necessarily the hf2) that fit and work fine? Thanks a lot.

According to the manual, a new one "should" be purchased. However, common sense and practicality tell me that $40 a year for two filters is a bit much. I usually wash and soak it in mild bleach water and leave it air dry for 8-10 hours. After awhile the fibers in the filter do break down so I replace it when this becomes noticable.
Oh, and for filter replacement try Wal Mart, you can usually, depending on the store, find them for around $16-18 apiece.

Hepa filters are not washable...you can shake them out a little, but you are defeating the purpose of their intent, to clean the air of most all dust and contaminates.

Twenty bucks for a filter isn't bad. Filters for my air-makeup system are around $70 and have to be replaced every other week.
