Those things aren't too patriotic--what is too patriotic is when you know deep in your heart of hearts that God has an extra special place in his heart for the USA and that makes it ok for you to hate people from other countries.

I think you are giving patriotism a bad name here. Everybody is entitled to be a patriot, but what most US-Americans are is called "nationalist", or even "jingoist" in ordinary English.
I don't mind people singing patriotic songs - our own national anthem (Ireland) is pretty bloodthirsty, and we sing it a lot - but when every atrocity is condoned if it's committed in the name of the country that's where it starts to get very unhealthy, not only for the rest of the world, but for the country in question as well.
If you look at today's US, and compare what's happening there now to Germany in the 1930s, you will find many frightening parallels.
I sincerely hope that the man who said that the only thing to be learnt from history is that humans don't learn from history is proven wrong for once.

One can never be "too patriotic". Having served our country in Vietnam and seeing many of our brave men give the ultimate sacrifice of their lives I feel moved whenever I hear Patriotic songs and the pledge.

In Texas, they pledge to the state every morning too.
It does seem to be a bit much. Wasn't intense nationalism part of the problems that started WWII?

So those three things make you partritic. Hmmmm.
Maybe you should study the definition of patriotism; love of country and willingness to sacrifice for it.

Those are some of my favorite memories as a child. Its good to instill patriotism in children, when they get older they will appreciate their heritage.
