what to do if methane gas is found while constructing a tunnel

Methane is flammable, of course. It would be necessary to install ventilation equipment and monitoring devices. The concentration of methane in air should be kept no higher than 25% of the lower flammable (explosive) limit.

Don't light a cigarette, and probably don't operate equipment, just in case there is a loose wire that could cause a spark.

I'd probably put in some monitoring equipment as well, to measure the concentration of methane in the air

(I'm not any safety expert by the way)
