When both my Dad and Mom passed away [three years apart from one another], I had traveled to be with them, and then left to go home. Both died within 24 hours of my leaving. I don't know if they were waiting for me to leave, or if I just had lousy timing.
In the case of my Dad's death, my sister and I had been staying with him for 2 weeks. I felt that I had to go home to my family in Illinois [he lived in Tennessee] at least for the weekend. He died the evening I got back home. I still feel horrible guilt, since my sister had to experience his very painful death without my support. I should have been at her side.
You will always feel that you should have done more. My parents knew that I loved them, but I wished I had expressed it more.

Don't wait for someone to die. Let them feel your love and care while they're still alive. Be more 'showy'. It's always nice to have a clear conscience. I don't quite believe in the saying 'better late than never'....

As there are lots of things we could have done or should have instead of regretting it (we cant alter it when they've gone) Treat others around you the way you wish you had treated them.
Example> I regret not telling my Mum how much I loved her, I now tell my daughter I love her as often as I can!!

Don't let yourself get caught up in the "could've, should've, would've" line of thinking. Live from this day forward with the "I did" when you think of them. Have peace when remembering them.

i was away on vacation when my father died, unexpectedly. i wish i had been at his bedside when he died so he didn't have to pass on all alone. at least one of his children should have been there; i believe it should have been me.
