Mixed metaphor aside, you make a provocative comment. What specifically would have Fermi "rolling in his grave"? Is the the proliferation of nuclear weapons? Mel Gibson, maybe?

I hope he would no longer be in his grave! I think he would have a tremendously exciting time catching up with what others have learned as they carried on his work, especially in quantum theory. It would take him quite a while to learn the new results in subatomic particles. I'm sure he'd find ways to make even more contributions to science. I hope it would be by putting the recent work into perspective, and bringing a reality check to some recent proposals. Imagine Shockley, Bardeen, and Brattain (generally credited with the invention of the transistor at Bell Labs) looking at today's integrated circuits, computers, and other electronic wonders.
