If a check was deposited it has gone into the bank check clearing process and can't be retrieved. It is out of the hands of the bank you brought it into by the end of the day. If you hurry in before that, they might be able to return it, with much grumbling on their part. Later than that it is not coming back. After it clears you can withdraw the funds and return them to whoever wrote the check you changed your mind about.

Other kinds of deposits might be returnable depending on whether it was to hold something that you changed your mind about or as security on something you borrowed and have since returned OK.

Depends on the terms when you gave it, but yes it is possible.
IE, a deposit applied toward the total once you buy, agree to something will not be returned. A deposit when you rent something and return it in good shape can be returned, etc
