We travel to Cuba now. What's stopping you? That's right , you're government dictates that you can't go, I keep thinking the US is a free country, how stupid of me. If you want to go to Cuba, just come to Canada and fly from here. The Cubans will not stamp your passport to protect you when you go back to the US.
FYI- a couple of articles from this mornings Halifax paper.
Thank you, Silver Donald Cameron, for the column on Cuba’s incredible performance in organic gardening, solar power and other measures that have reduced its ecological footprint (Nov. 26). Cuba’s contributions internationally, and at home, prove that when we provide for all rather than for the few, we can make a difference.
It’s refreshing to read articles about Cuba that don’t make ideological references against Cuba’s different path. The people of Cuba prove time and time again that a community that is concerned about its environment, neighbourhood, hemisphere, continent, globe can provide a standard of living that is sustainable. It takes determination, persistence and co-operation without outside interference.
It continually makes me wonder how the U.S. government just doesn’t get it.
I have been visiting Cuba since 1995, during the "Special Period." I have been to many workplaces in Cuba and I have seen the organic farms, the schools, the clinics, the offices. I have seen the real Cuba, away from the beaches. I have visited many homes, eaten at many tables and talked to many Cubans.
I have met pregnant mothers who are given the best of care and then I have seen their beautiful, healthy, much-loved babies. The schools ensure that all children get a free education, from kindergarten to university.
Since 1995, I have seen Cuba grow and overcome the obstacles that would destroy many other countries. I know many children who are healthy, well-educated and well-mannered. I have met people from all corners of Cuba – police, doctors, teachers, translators, farmers, bicycle drivers; and on one May Day, I had the privilege to shake the hand of Fidel Castro!
Cuba is amazing! The people are resilient. The government has its priorities and cutting education and health is not on the agenda. Our Canadian government should take time to study how a poor country like Cuba can include free education in its economic budget while we continue to cut, cut, cut.
I encourage anyone who travels to visit Cuba and to "please get away from the beach for at least one day."

You haven't missed much. Mostly it was attempts by various groups, the Mafia, CIA, FBI and assorted Cubans who have, over the years tried to bump off Castro, mostly by using such as exploding cigars and various poisons. Why waste time? He's practically dead anyway and if fails to turn up for his 80th birthday parade, that signals 'curtains' - lets pray for a swift departure of the dictator.

I read the news release, it doesn't list all 638 but it's crazy how the CIA tried and failed so many times!

I didn't see this one but there are many documentaries on this regard, many have tried but no one succeeded, maybe you don't have to wait for the re-run, cuz the old dictator is on the way down now, I think he's got a intestinal cancer so it won't be long, then we can travel to Cuba for a nice vacation on the white sands of Varadero..âº
