In order to play for the National Title, I feel you should have to be Confrence Champion, with some grey area, like Co-Champions.
However, I do feelyou should have to win your confrence. I also think all confrences need to have a confrence championship game or no championship games at all. Yes, I'm a Big 10 fan.

You bet they should....in '01 or so, Oklahoma got stomped in the Big XII Campionship game by Kansas State but they still played in the National Title Game....wow....If you're not even the best team in your own conference how are you in the "top 2" in the nation???

Well MAYBE if you are Co-Champions BUT I have a problem with that. See I think that IF that happens you should have to play head-to-head. I know that doesn't happen in some Confrences. I think IF all the teams don't play head to head then there SHOULD be a Championship game unless there is a clear Champion. Now OSU is a clear Champion being the only undefeated in the Big Ten. Ok fine they didn't play ALL the teams BUT with no other undefeated in the Confrence I think that is good enough. The Big East all play each other so they don't need a Championship game based on they have all met head-to-head. In general I don't mind the rules of the ones that have a Championship and those that don't THIS year. Although I'm a Pitt fan so since I'm ok with the way the Big East does it then it is ok usually. I do think that they should be Confrence Champions to play in the National Championship game. Although I am also against Rematchs like that in general. Say they split the games. What does that say? Well OSU was better at home and not as good at a Neutral? Maybe the rest was too much? I mean would you really be ready to say that Michigan was that much better since they lost the first time around? See it just screws things up and the rematch would just further expose the BCS as BS if OSU lost.

You should be a conference champion unless you are Notre Dame or another independent. It is unfair to the conference champion that a team like Michigan would get to play for the national title when Ohio State did better than them in conference play. Also, the conference championship game system works out fine because a conference should have large amount of teams (at least 12).

i agree. i raised this point before and kenny g is right if you arent the best team in your own conference how do you even get a shot at playing for the national championship? sorry michigan fans big blue blew it. if USC loses they are out but thats highly unlikey but they did win their conference and played a tougher schedule than lets say a sec team. by the way should usc loses i think the sec champion should play for the title over michigan. people argue for a playoff. college football already has a playoff system. its called the regular season. the team that keeps winning week after week and at the end of the season is the champion. people who are begging for a playoff have no idea of the history of college football and no appreciation for it. in the words of herm edwards we play to win the game. in college you use play every week to win the championship.

if you lose a game you have no claim-johnnie cochran RIP

You have to win a confrence to be in the national championship. Unless your notredame who doesnt have a confrence you cant make it without winning the confrence.

Yeah...I would agree with the teams having to at least win their conference. But as someone alluded to...each conference team must have played the same inter-conference games.
