An "oxen" is the plural of "ox", so the lifespan of the members comprising the "oxen" could be taken to mean their average lifespan, or the lifespan of the longest lived, or even the lifespans of all members added together, so it depends on what you mean.

Incidentally, and even though I don't know the answer to this: I've always heard the term "oxen" applied to a group of two----a "yoke" I don't know of an instance where oxen meant more than two.
