The ACLU defends the constitution -- this means anyone whose rights are being denied gets defended.

For instance, they are defending the right of a second grader to sing a religious song ("Awesome God") at a school talent show.

You can see the knee-jerk anti-ACLU answers have no clue.
It is consistent with the ACLU goal of not having FORCED religion and allowing religious freedom.

This action fits ENTIRELY with the ACLU position that religion in a non-school-run event is a right, but would not b permissible when the school (a government entity) is running the event.

I rarely support the ACLU, but this country was founded on religious freedom! Sing away!

This is a rarity because the ACLU fights every one that is or stands for Christianity....
Maybe they are seeing the errors of their ways and taking this on to portray a better vision of their organization!
But they don't fool this Christian!

Definitely. The defense that the school had of the denial -- that it would make it seem as though the song is endorsed by the school -- is ridiculous.

Good point. They defend both sides, if they think rights are abridged. They are a screwy organization sometimes, but they serve a valuable purpose.
