Robert Green Ingersoll:
It is a thousand times better to have common sense without education than to have education without common sense.
I would venture to say that, in this once great nation, we have neither (else how did George W. get elected twice ... oh wait a minute, he really didn't ...).

Common sense does not exist as a scientific fact. It is a term used for things that society as a whole has agreed in a non verbal fashion that should be "known" to all people.
For example, it is common sense that if one walks into the path of an on coming car then that person will get hit by the car. Or if one does not tie his/her shoes then one will possibly trip and fall.
No one explains these things because one feels that it is self-evident that these are the likely outcomes. Thus, it is common sense to "know". The common man/woman would likely know this.

What is common sense?
Common sense is the ability to identify the general pattern from the available information.
Does it really exist?
It does exist and it is possible that some individuals have the awareness of the general pattern better than others. They can achive it with fewer sample data and with lesser time. I am one of them :) LOL

To me common sense is having experienced life lessons that others have not experienced. It makes some more intelligent than others in a way that when it is finely tuned, a person perceives a situation more quickly than someone who doesn't have common sense.
There are many advantages to having common sense. It is different than academic learning, but when you combine the two, you have an individual who is highly intelligent.

A good quote says it all; If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck. Some people don't have enough common sense to believe the duck theory.
I would bet that even though we have a very educated nation not even 40% have common sense.

In my opinion is to apply the logic.
Silly but clear example is 1 car + 1 car by logic and common sense is equal to 2 cars.

Common Sense- It does exist, problem is that it is not that common.
“He who does not have common sense at age thirty will never have it.”
“Success is more a function of consistent common sense than it is of genius.”
“Common sense is genius in its working clothes”
“Seek advice but use your own common sense”
“Common sense is the least common of all senses”
“The world is in need of less religion and more common sense”

Common sense is to move away from a vechicle thats about to kill you. A person with no common sense would stand there and get hit.. It's our natural survival tool. Our mind is the key to survival.

i think common sense is just the basic knowledge of right and wrong that people agree on. Practicality I suppose.

Common sense isn't that common anymore though it does exist. One guy put it this way, "Madam, you are educated far beyond your intelligence."
