probably the long and thin, because and I know this sounds weird, but when you pick them up, you have more room to grab and you aren't touching as much of the glass, so it stays colder!

I would say, long and thin, but I prefer short and fat, feels better in my hands.

In think they say "short and thick does the trick".

Then again I usually drink dark ales in winter which are better at room temparature.
