This will tell you why... too much may cause birth defects. Folic Acid is really good to take before pregnancy...then the Prenatal vitamins you get will cover the folic acid and other vitamins you need during pregnancy.
Goodluck!

Too much vitamin A can be toxic. It's best to find the right amount of any vitamin (or medication) with your dr when you are pregnant. There are many things that are safe for non-pregnant women that are potentially harmful when you are pregnant. If you are thinking of becoming pregnant in the not-too-distant future, it's a good idea to get a book ahead of time and do some reading. It really can be overwhelming actually, so it's good to start ahead!!

Vitamin A builds up resistance to infection, essential for good vision, keeps skin and mucous membranes in good condition, necessary for the formation of tooth enamel, hair and fingernails, important for the growth and formation of the Thyroid gland. Vitamin A is found in whole milk, fortified margarine, butter, egg yolk, oily fish, fish liver oils, liver, kidney green and yellow vegetables, carrots - the cooking of carrots releases vitamin A for easy absorption. The above information is listed under the section of Vitamins and minerals required in pregnancy, from New pregnancy and birth book by Dr.Miriam Stoppard. I think this is a fantastic book full of valuable information. I am currently 27weeks pregnant with my 2nd daughter and any questions I have had I have always found the answers in this book. I reckon that there are other ingredient's in you vitamins that may not be advisable to take if your pregnant. If you are trying to conceive tho I would ask my GP or pharmacist about the vitamins and they maybe able to advise you of something different.
Good luck xx

Too much Vitamin A is bad for the baby. I was advised by the doctor to eat foods rich in vitamin A in moderation.
If you are planning to become pregnent Folic Acid is what you need to take.

No, you dont want to take extra vitamin A when pregnant, unless your doctor decides to dosage is safe.
Its been linked to brain defects and growth defects in the baby. Your body tends to get all that it needs for both of you through the foods you eat.
