Giving gifts has nothing to do w/ Christmas. It's just how we as Americans justify being greedy, superficial consumer addicts while also pretending to be spiritual and pious. And the wise men are not why we give gifts on Christmas at all. Very common misconception. It has more to do with pagan rites of passing and how the Church integrated the common culture and beliefs of the pagans in Europe and Asia Minor with the Christian holiday when Christianity was beginning it's own little converting crusade throughout the known world between the fifth and eleventh centuries Anno Domini.
As far as 'liberal atheists' giving and getting gifts on Christmas, anyone can do that, they just don't need to acknowledge that Christ was born and that that is the real purpose of Christmas. Hell no one in America does that now. You greedy plastic idiotic hedonistic hypocritical war mongering low class self righteous cowardly pseudo cultures that call yourselves Americans have no concept of GOD at all. You hide behind your flag and your twisted concept of divine right to impose your idiosyncratic tyrannies on the world around you while you yell out in protest at everything that you're too close minded and ignorant to comprehend. The world moves on and you're stuck on stupid time and time again. And what is the only argument Americans have when they are wrong? "well maybe we should just stop caring and giving away so much of our own time and money to intervene." or it's " Yer anti-American and you don't know nothin' about nothin' " or here's a famous one you like to divert attention away from your stupidity, " Terrorist!"
Let them give gifts, the rest of the godless American pseudo-culture is doing it, so why can't they?

Why do christians celebrate Christmas with gifts?
I guess because they worship the Saint Nicholas of Russia and pray before the Christmas tree.
The giving of gifts was actually a cultural phenomena which actually has very little to do with the celebration of Christs birth day, some just see it as a celebration of good will towards man and peace among the people and classes.

Why do Christians use the lit tree in their Christmas celebrations, even thought it is a pagan tradtion symbolizing life and light lasting through the winter? Why is it on December 25th, right after the Soltice? Why was Jesus supposedly born in a cave, to a virgin, with magi coming to visit him, when the story was stolen from the legend of Dionysis, and his life stolen from the legend of Apollonius of Tyre? You don't believe in those things, so why do you steal those traditions and use them for your own?
And by the way, there are conservative atheists. And also, atheists have what's called Human Light Day which is celebrated around the same time as Christmas.

some liberals are atheists, some are Jews, some are Christians, some are Buddhists, etc. the undemanding denominator for liberalism seems to be taking a severe, skeptical physique of techniques to all issues. they do no longer take issues at face value, and don't reflexively or promptly have self assurance each thing they examine or hear, which incorporate non secular texts. it quite is that entire questioning for your self element. This in fact what separates Reform Judaism from Orthodox Judaism. Orthodox Jews have self assurance the Torah is the written observe of God, organic and straightforward, the way some fundamentalist Christians have self assurance the King James Bible (even yet it quite is in English, and replaced into for this reason of course translated a minimum of as quickly as) is the literal observe of God. Reform Jews belive the Torah is divinely inspired, yet that the Torah incorporates allusions and metaphors that is concept approximately, interpreted, made proper to the guy. slightly a tangent, yet i'm attempting as an occasion a element. no longer all liberals are atheists, yet their physique of techniques to faith could be slightly distinctive from conservatives, who've a tendency to be slightly extra dogmatic, rigid and literal. Are all atheists liberals? i'm useful no longer a hundred%, yet i'm no longer able to think of of any atheists i understand who're politically conservative, oh, apart from some Air stress Academy graduates. What is going on at that place? Who called Jesus a Liberal? Oh my goodness, no, Jesus hated liberals - that rabbi replaced into an intensive, extra of a Che Guevara or an Abbie Hoffman than a invoice Clinton. Liberals are too business enterprise - the "enable's replace it from the interior" physique of techniques. Jesus replaced into extra of a "burn, toddler, burn" kinda guy. He did no longer choose to alter the present social order - he had to tear it down and initiate over with some thing extra constructive, beginning with all Romans outta Palestine.

Yule time was celebrated centuries before the Pope turn it into a Christian celebration. You need to review your history. Originally, Yule was celebrated as a pagan ritual, the return of the sun. Early Christian leaders were unable to stop the observance of Yule time by the newly converted. To solve the problem, the Pope declared the celebration as an observance of Christ's birthday, which historically was actually some time in February not December.
So the fact is, Christians have actually taken over a pagan holiday. Why don't you stop celebrating it?

I don't. The only gifts I give are the ones I am obligated to but if it were not for my niece and nephews....I would not even bother.
As much as I like the time off from work, I have no use for this holiday.

So when you're sitting at the table on Christmas gorging on pie and cookies, while your nephew plays with a new toy car, that is a celebration of Christ? Holidays are commercial for the most part at this point, and don't claim for a second that you don't contribute to that fact because EVERYONE does.

Because Christmas has become as much a secular holiday as it is a religious one. There is nothing religious now about Santa Claus...he is not really representative of Saint Nikolas. So the non-believers may enjoy Christmas without thinking of it as
Christ Mass at all.

" need to start their own holiday instead of celebrating ours " ???!
Wow..well, thats a REALLY Christian attitude, ain't it? Jesus would be REAL proud of you, making sure his word ain't heard by as many as possible, and spreading hate and distrust all around....
If you feel like that, then how come you let just anyone come into your church? Hey, you know..they might actually disagree with you or something really dangerous like that. And you dont want to mix with non Christians, do you? After all, you might catch something...
