Pianos are usually acoustic, keyboards are electronic. There are also electric pianos which really look like pianos but are in fact keyboards. In my opinion, pianos sound a lot better but the more expensive keyboards sound close to pianos and you can make them sound like different instruments and get some rhythms going.
You should take some piano lessons for a few years just to get started, after that you can learn by yourself once you get the basics. It's better that way so you don't fall into any bad habits. I took lessons for 10 years and then quit and just taught myself after that.
If you want to learn on your own, there are computer programs out there that teach you to play the piano. You can even connect your computer up to the electronic keyboard. I have seen these programs in stores like Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. There are also videos and books that are quite helpful. If you put your heart into it, you could play an easy song in a couple of weeks!

You can learn without an instructor. I did. It really depends on what songs you want to play. I only play gospel songs. Most of them are pretty easy to learn if you practice. I used those books that actually has the letter of the note instead of regular books . It helped me a lot. Playing the keyboard and piano is about the same thing. It's easier playing on a keyboard but it doesn't sound... real (i guess that's the word for it) It sounds better on a piano because of how you push the pedals down. My problem was (I was 12 when I started learning) that I got so used to playing on the keyboard that it was hard to play the piano. I hadn't really learned what each key was, I had memorized the little symbol above each key on the keyboard and I couldn't do that on the piano. I'm doing better now. Just practice and practice and practice because if you don't practice the songs you learn you'll forget how to play them (experience). It's probably easier with an instructor but you can learn on your own too.

Personally, I like the sound of the Piano better then the key board.
Some keyboards sound pretty close.
You can take a key board with you. The Piano would be very difficult.
When you can play a song depends on you.
As already stated, it will take longer without a instructor.
They can show you quicker where you need to correct yourself.
The professionals who go out and perform concert style, They started playing the Piano when they were like 5 or 6 years old and some even younger. Practice! Practice! Practice! and more Practice!
There are like 6 or 7 versions of each cord. Like a minor, major, flats, sharp, 7th cords etc. and so on.
So their is a lot to learn for each one of these cords adds meaning to a song when played
It is said, when you miss a day of practice you know it.
When you miss 2 days of practice your friends know it.
When you miss 3 days of practice the whole world knows it.
The Piano some people are musically inclined and they pick it right up like it was nothing.
Other seem to struggle to learn.
It will be up to you. If you are dedicated to learn you can do it. Good luck.

The difference is that the keyboard"s keys are plastic and the piano's keys are wood, coated with paint. If your like wanting to be a professional, get a piano. But if you just want to play for fun, get a keyboard.
A piano cost MUCH more than a keyboard
It's possible to lean without a teacher but it'll take longer. It's best to find an instructor.

The difference between the piano and the keyboard is that the piano is a music instrument, the keyboard is term about all music instruments which are similar like the piano.
Probably you mean sintezator and piano.
The Piano is better!
Yes,it is possible to learn piano without instructor, but is very slow way.
For 1 week practice you will be able to play song.
You welcome

the piano is longer and has more keys. the keyboard is shorter and doesn't have as many keys.
i think the piano's better because it has a better sound and you can play all the notes. plus when you use the pedal is sounds real.
but on the keyboard you can play in different sounds and record things.

its better to start off with a keyboard...pianos cost a fortune... if you're planning on taking exams, you'll be better off with an instructor or maybe you could ask someone you know who plays piano to give you a few lessons...good luck :D
