I guess I should have been more specific.
I'm talking about ceiling light fixtures. I realize odd numbers of similar objects look better asthetically. That's fine. So why is it when you buy replacement lightbulbs, they come in packs of 2 or 4.
Yes, I know I can buy 1 plain lightbulb at a time, but I'm talking more about decorative bulbs in ceiling fixtures. It wasn't a trick :)

The same reason that hotdogs come in 10's and buns in 8's and 12's. It's a conspiracy, I tell you.

The most common number of lights in a fixture is 1. I would guess that there are more 1 light fixtures than all of the others combined so even if there were equal numbers of 2, 3, 4, 5 etc, with the great number of 1's out there "most of the light fixtures" would come with an odd number of lights.
Was this a "trick" question where you knew the answer?

dont agree...ive installed, repaired, replaced lights and fixtures for over 30 years.. this is not correct..Have no idea where your shopping..the average fixture comes with 2 bulbs, then 4...

I agree with you nancyjo ... Iam sitting in a room with a ceiling fan that has three lights ..

The one in my dining room has five lights. I think it just makes it more balanced looking that way.

It is so that you can have a variation in the amount of illumination without using a dimmer switch.
