For me it's because it's more than the sum of it's parts.
It is visually calming, it smells fresh and wonderful. The air temp. drops and the clouds roll in darkening the sky. It makes me want to sit outside under the porch with a blanket over my knees, a cup of coffee or soup to sip on, my border collie by my side and a book I probably won't pick up to read in my lap.
It is about relaxation....
Thats rain for me. I live on the edge of a desert so rain whilst not totally rare is fantastic to see when it comes.

water reminds us of clensing and washing away dirt...the peacefullness comes from the sound and sight of it...and sometimes the smell before the rain..
