Diving and swimming are different things. Some of the best divers in the world do not like swimming. I know on my team, or top state diver hated swimming, hated it, most she did was from where she landed in the water, to the edge of the pool to get out. You don't need to swim well, because most of your performance is out of the water.

When first learning to dive, you have to take risk. If you don't, then you won't get anywhere. Try doing some gymnastics out of the water too, that can be a major help. Diving can sometimes be scary, and like any sport theres pain involved.

Strenthing your abdomen is key, because a lot of diving is focused on your abs; do crunches, not sit ups, try palaties, i'm sorry thats spelled wrong. Also do lunches.

When you get on the board, you have to, have to, jump, and do your approach. It might be a frightening to do it at first cause you might feel like you'll fall of the board, but you have to in order to dive correctly. And don't just jump straight out, there has to be some upward momentum

Just because you never took lessons, doesn't mean you are not a good swimmer. If you ever decide to go into underwater welding, remember, when they pump heated sea water into your suit and accidentally suck up a jellyfish and pump it into your suit, you will wish you chose another line of work. Honestly, all kidding aside, fins are really an excellent way to propel yourself through water even if you are not the strongest swimmer. Scuba and snorkeling is so peaceful and incredible. Just awesome. You go for it. You will be just fine. Good luck and have fun. :)

diving is a very difficult thing to learn i can dive but it is not the best in the world. but the real big key for diving is no holding back and hit head first in the water. but before you do it off of a diving board try doing it off of the side were you don't have to go very far

What kind of diving are you talking about???

Diving as in flips or diving as in fishies and tanks?

To be a flip kinda diver you don't have to be a very good swimmer

to be a fishy kinda diver you have to be a really good diver so you don't drown in the ocean lol
