To be "IN" and fill the designer pockets with money. It can look really stupid but people want to be popular with others and so they wear what is dictated to them. No individuality, just follow the flock.

Fashion doesn't always mean flashy. I was never a 'follower.' I have always done my 'own' thing. I wore a tie to a friend's funeral. My husband kept asking "Are you SURE you want to wear that??" At the funeral, I got tons of compliments. BTW, this was long before women wearing ties became fashionable.
I also was the first among my friends to wear a big faced watch. Of course I had to get it out of the men's dept. My husband couldn't believe that's what I wanted. It was just a black band with a large white face(Timex).
I can remember when I wore red and purple together before that was in style!
When I was young....we were so poor, I was lucky to have ANY clothes to wear, let alone anything that was fashionable! Now that I am an adult, I just do what I want.
But, there are just some people who are either afraid to try anything new that they think of, fearing being made fun of.....or some people just have no 'sense' of style. It's just like some people simply can't cook...no matter how they try. So, I think there is more than a couple of reasons that people 'follow fashion.'

this is a matter of popularity. some people dont want to be left out of the crowd who is wearing that, this also happens in school. the most popular person or the popular group will show off and make them follow them. it also might be because they like it. but seriously fashion is getting a little weird these days.

Nothing wrong with following fashion. There is a difference between blindly following what everyone is wearing and what you like when see it on someone else. Nothing is original now unless you decide to wear a tablecloth and hang a string of bananas around your neck. I say it's alright to pick out what you like and wear them as long as you are comfortable and feel happy in it.

some people think it makes them look better or feel better. but u gotta remember it s the person that makes the clothes/fashion whatever it is not the fashion. its always whats inside that counts. Just be yourself, come up with your own style/fashion !!!!

following fashion is just another outlet to discovering, onesself, every body has a unique personality.and the fashion industry certainly will be thier to help.I think its great to be able to dress so many different ways.as long as fashion isn't your sole identity.
