Soak it in very cold water (not warm or hot, that will set the stain) then scrub the stain with a bar soap like Ivory. Hang to dry. Then before laundering, spray stained area with a good stain remover like the Oxy one, (bottle with two sides, one side clear liquid, the other side pink liquid) again wash in cold water. Do not put in the dryer, it will set the stain if it's not completely removed. You may have to do this once or twice but it's always worked for me.

use hydrogen peroxide on the stain when it is fresh - this will bubble out some of the blood. then, rinse with cold water. put some Stain Stick on the spot that is left and wash within 7 days in the warmest water that the fabric can tolerate.

My sister is a nurse and she has taught us to use peroxide. Soak the item overnight in it (even if it's colored....it won't dye the fabric but will take the stain out).
I have done this many times ( I raised a boy, lol) and it really does work.

Peroxide will take it out, it does not hurt the fabric either.
