Because a car can sit out in the rain without causing any problems. You can not do that with drills, tools and other 'useless' junk. They would be useless junk in no time. Also, since most people use the car at least once a day, its more convenient to jump in and go instead of opening and closing the garage. I only put my car in the garage when the weather is going to be real bad so that I don't have to brush off snow and scrape ice.

I have neighbors that have junk piled high rodents and fire hazzard in there garage. Stuff they will never use! And two $20,000 cars out in the weather. I put cabnets with doors all around my garage and park both cars in every night. I don't like open shelfs.

Easier to leave quickly. Also wouldn't want all the neighbors complaining about the crap sitting outside.

I have always wondered the same thing...why not build and out building for our junk....I did..
