I don't know. Now we've got a senior US State Department official saying that the "special relationship" is a total myth.. and that if it does exist, then its one-sided (meaning UK sucking up to US).

We do have a shared joint history in standing up together in major warfare (WW1 and WW2)

Yet Blair and Bush... I can't see what Blair personally has gained, except enjoyed his "status" and trips to the US. He does like to give speeches, and no one can deny he is an exceptionally gifted speaker when he's in top form. Sells his message and arguments powerfully.

And LOL at all the victims of advertising about "terror". Your bought the terroism culture hook-line and sinker.

Yes we do have to be wary and vigilent and take action - but not at the costs of losing our own freedom to any political power.

By supporting GW Bush in Iraq Blair expect6ed US suport for the robbery of Equatorial Guinea's oil in return. That went pear shaped went the whole deable was put into the hands of amateur's like Mark Thatcher - whose mother sold of the UK's oil reserves for next to nothing. So in the end we ain't got nuttin except a flotilla full of empty oil tankers. The US however have managed the finances of the IRAQI oil so that they have got low priced iraqui oil for the next 40 yeaws.

Tony Blair and George Bush are both blessed with anticipating the Islamic Fascist problem before it is too late and the guts to act upon it without worrying what the liberal media's polls say. The American and British people are damned lucky to have these leaders in charge at the pivotal time in our collective histories to face the problems the Islamic Fascist pose before we become overrun like the great power, France!

Blair has taken a realistic approach to his relationship with Bush above all moral inquietudes. Economic relations were at risk of being affected if Blair had taken the moral high ground on issues such as Iraq. This wouldn't have been the case if we lived in a bipolar, or even multipolar world. The fact that the US is the only power in today's world greatly affects the manoeuvres of every nation today...if China, for example, eventually balances the power out, nations such as the UK will have more strategical options.

Britain has a stronger relationship with the US in terms of exports, common language etc than with mainland Europe. Blair is the same as every other prime minister, of whatever party, and wants to perpetuate that.

And Britain has always had a big problem with the fact it lost its Empire and is now just an archipelago off France. British governments like to hang onto the coat tails of the US so they continue to feel important and at the centre of things.

Unfortunately, Blair thinks he is something special and acts like he is a president. It now seems all about *him*, not his country or the voters. I was shocked he treated Republican GWB as as good a friend as liberal Clinton!

No doubt when he retires, Blair will make a mint from speaking tours across the States ;)

He gained unwarranted credibility in the US at the cost of loss of all respect and credibility in his home country. He is a consummate actor and is not afraid to be economical with the truth if it suits his own ends. He still has to pick up the Congressional Gold Medal but I wonder whether he has the gall to do so in view of the disaster that is Iraq. He is a very naive man driven by blind ambition.

Impeachment soon and humiliation, and a huge ranch next door to this of Bushy in Texas. Not a bad deal, is it?

No political gain obviously.
However, he has gained the respect of many people around the world because he is not afraid to stand up for his convictions.
He knows the terrorists must be stopped before they destroy the civilized world as we know it. Open your eyes and you will see how the Muslim terrorists are trying to destroy Europe as we type!

People from the UK need to stop the Blair bashing until they can resolve the problem (in their own country and the rest of Europe) of having Muslims infiltrate and manipulate their countries. Are you so blind as to not see that the Arabs would love to dominate the UK and Europe?
