First let me tell you that I own a pest control company and what I will recommend is the complete treatment that should help you completely get rid of the fleas.
First, treat the pets with Capstar. This is a pill that will kill all of the fleas that get on the animals for the first 24 hours. Second, use either frontline or advantage. I usually tell people to switch back and forth between the two because there are two different types of fleas that are common on dogs and cats and frontline works better on the one type and advantage works better on the other.
Once your pets has been treated, you must treat your home and yard. The best products to do this would include not only a killing agent, but also a sterilization agent. Inside, I would use Ultracide, if you can get it. (Many on line sites sell it.) Outside I would use Demon and Gentrol or Nylar. Treating your house is just as important as treating the animals!
It is also very important to stay away from the grocery store or box store products like Zodiac or Hartz. Many of these products can cause severe allergic reactions in animals.

You can use Frontline for both animals as long as the kitten is over 10 weeks old. Treat both at the same time so they don't pass the fleas back and forth to one another. Cats can be very sensitive to over the counter flea products, if the kitten is under 10 weeks, get the vet's opinion on what to use to be safe.
Kudos to the pest control company, Hartz and Sargent's flea products do SUCK!!!!!

You can use Frontline or Advantage for both your Pekingese and Kitten provided your kitten is more than 2 months old. Below two months old, sometimes untoward reaction comes out so better not use this at a vey young age.

well do NOT use the flea stuff from wal mart, it causes seizures in some cats (it killed mine and he wasnt even 1 yr old yet, but my other cat was fine). the vet even said he doesnt know how stores still can sell it. so go with frontline. and vaccuum a lot.

Carba-dust. I don't know if you get it in Kentucky, you do in South Africa. Go to a store which sells treatments for farm animals, you will get it there.
